First Flight Celebration
Vultee Express
invited to Kitty Hawk
100th anniversary of powered flight
hen
the invitation to participate in the 100th anniversary of powered flight
arrived, the Vultee Express BT-13 was polished and prepared for the long
flight to Kill Devil Hills, in North Carolina. The celebration was to be
held at the site of the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kittty Hawk.
It was at this spot, on the morning of December 17, 1903, that man first
rose into the air with a powered flying machine. Those 12 seconds,
covering 120 feet, made history and forever changed the way we live.
